Hockey and Theatrics Meet in Transcendent Penalty “Shot”

TCStarlight Hockey Video Penalty Shot Crazy

Since we are in the “State of Hockey”, we figure it is our duty here at TCS to share epic-sweet hockey videos – and pictures of Ryan Suter – when we find them even though we aren’t the biggest of hockey fans. That includes this little diddy from the Kontinental Hockey League All-Star game in Russia over the weekend in which – the St Louis Blues drafted – Jori Lehtera shows kids they don’t need to go all triple deke, glove side when the game matters most …

Really all you need is a simple “shot” and one that to my untrained hockey eye seems has little to do with traditional on-ice skills as much as it does harnessing one’s acting chops. To pull this pig off, gently push the puck towards the net, gallivant the opposite way and throw in some crazy strange stick motions. You will have then won the game and got the girl without any real hockey skills; strikingly similar to the plot of Goon!

In the words of the great villain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, “Theatrics and deception are powerful agents to the uninitiated” and who is more uninitiated than goalies … Am I right hockey folk?!

What do you guys think of the “shot”? Creative, inventive, silly or transcendent? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
